Nokia has several suppliers who collectively produced more than 300 million BL-5C batteries but the batteries in question were manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006.

So far there have been over 100 incidents of overheating reported worldwide. To prevent further problems Nokia is urging all of its customers that use the BL-5C battery to return them for a free replacement.

Nokia communications director Mark Squires said: We have issued this advisory becasue reliability and quality is our top priority. During this period we appreciate the continued support from the millions of customers who use Nokia phones around the world.
