Samsung UK and Ireland director Mark Mitchinson said: “We will assess Brightstar over a longer period. We are not trading with it in the way we had hoped; it is going through recruitment and rapid growth and has to find its feet. It has to build relationships with other manufacturers and networks. It’s quite a task to take on but I’m confident it will do it.”
Meanwhile, Samsung has reappointed Data Select as distributor. It was placed on a temporary trial in March and has since overachieved, according to Mitchinson. He said: “It’s about knowing where our products are sold, in what numbers and in which channels. Before, we never had that kind of transparency and couldn’t assess the impact our marketing had.”
Samsung dropped the distributor last year after it found Data Select purchasing grey market stock. Mitchinson said: “Of course Data Select has the potential to buy cheaper elsewhere, but we hope it wouldn’t jeopardise things by doing that.
“[Data Select managing director] George McPherson and his team have done a stellar job at turning that mentality around. But we will regularly review any of our partners, especially if they are importing stock.”
