Nokia has ruled out rejoining the Mobile Industry Crime Action Forum (MICAF).
MICAF chairman Jack Wraith last month told Mobile News that the lack of support from manufacturers was "disappointing".
Along with Motorola and Sony Ericsson, Nokia was once a MICAF member, but all three have recently left the group. However, all mobile networks are members.
Nokia communications director Mark Squires said: "We do discuss these matters with the Government directly. Crime is an industry-wide issue – manufacturers need to make their products secure, networks need to record their customers, police need to keep the streets safe and politicians need to ensure that they have the funding and support of the law to do so."
Squires said MICAF had over-simplified the argument by saying the problem of mobile phone theft originated with handsets alone.
