Virgin Megastore stalwart Sir Richard Branson sold the chain last week for an undisclosed amount to Virgin Megastore managing director Simon Douglas and finance director Steve Peckham. The chain will be renamed ‘Zavvi’.
A Virgin Mobile spokesman said the store’s high street presence would be “undiminished”. Five more stand-alone Virgin Media stores, featuring Virgin Mobile concessions, will open next month in locations including Aberdeen and Cardiff, with more planned for next year.
The spokesman said: “It’s going to be a challenge for new customers, but existing customers will hardly notice the difference when they go to the place that they always shop.”
Virgin Mobile managing director Graeme Oxby said: “As the mobile phone becomes more and more integral to accessing entertainment, we believe this relationship will continue to be mutually beneficial.”
