New phone log rules come into force

The law, approved in July, aims to aid security investigations by providing a reliable log of UK mobile and fixed-line calls.

Service providers will now have to manage complex data and business rules to ensure they have an easy-to-use interface to access call records quickly.

Martin Dawes Systems operations director Tony Wilson said: “Operators should really have most of the tools in place already, having used them for a variety of functions ranging from bill reconciliation to fraud management.”
