It started to sell O2 airtime contracts again on Saturday (December 1), having had its O2 deal suspended 10 months ago.
O2’s decision to reinstate Phones 4U’s supply deal means, following the demise of The Link last year and Vodafone’s continued absences from The Carphone Warehouse, it is the only high street multiple specialist with full airtime deals with all five major UK networks.
Phones 4U refused to comment as Mobile News went to press.
A source close to Phones 4U said: “O2 wants the business again. It shows it doesn’t have the quality control at Carphone, which is pushing its own deals through its stores and less reliable business through its web sales.
“It also shows [O2 parent company] Telefonica has got back its appetite for acquisition.”
