But for Waltham Abbey-based distributor Comm Sense, even that grim estimation would be an understatement; in fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone in mobile that’s had to endure such a nightmarish year.

For managing director Barry Moore, everything stems from a history linked with defunct distributor European Telecom (ET). Moore had left distributor Banner Telecom when it was taken over by ET in 1999, taking current head of sales and purchasing Nikki Matthews with him and establishing Comm Sense. Then, in February 2005, Comm Sense was also bought out by ET, with the distributor continuing to trade under its own name.

“The equation was simple – we were a small company being bought out by a big company, and at the time all the right boxes were being ticked,” says Moore. “The reason I agreed to the takeover was because ET were dealing with the networks direct, meaning life would be much easier as we had them on our side – it was a match made in heaven.”
