Samsung and adidas launch ‘miCoach’ sports phone

Samsung has teamed up with German sportswear giant adidas to launch the miCoach sports and music handset.

Available this month, the miCoach phone is equipped with a stride sensor and heart rate monitor, providing a comprehensive personal training system. The phone provides training tips and time updates, and encourages users with music tailored to the workout.

A personal coach advises runners to “speed up to power zone” or tells them that “15 minutes is completed”. Tapping the phone twice produces instant updates on the workout. The screen shows a real-time display of time, heart rate, distance, speed and calories burned.

The slider handset features a two megapixel camera, 1GB internal memory and will come in dark gray, silver, pink-red, cool gray, sapphire blue, misty blue and pink.

Vice president of marketing of Samsung’s telecommunications business YH Lee said: “The miCoach phone opens a brand new ‘sportronics’ market created for active users with multimedia tastes. We are adding a wider choice of mobile phones to get closer to individual consumers’ lifestyles.”

Vice president of adidas brand marketing Eric Liedtke added:“miCoach is the most advanced interactive training system in the marketplace, blending sophisticated mobile technology with the most advanced in sport innovation and training.

“The uniqueness of miCoach is that it collects and analyses personal data and then customises training plans based on your fitness level and specific goals, while giving you real-time feedback during your workout via the miCoach phone.”
