US distributor Brightpoint is expected to complete a deal for data and IT kit distributor Hugh Symons Telecom next week.
Completion of the deal, which is undertsood to be in the final stages of negotiations, would see Brightpoint realise a longheld ambition to enter the UK market.
Both Brightpoint chief of international operations Michaél Køehn (pictured left) and Hugh Symons Telecom managing director Hugh Roper (pictured right) refused to comment on the expected takeover.
Roper is thought to have agreed to stay on to manage the company for three years as part of the deal.
Brightpoint chairman and chief executive Bob Laikin said earlier this month: “We will continue to look for profitable growth via geographic expansion.”
Brightpoint merged with Danish handset distributor Dangaard in early 2007. The merger put on hold the long-held plans of both Brightpoint and Dangaard to enter the UK market as they integrated the two businesses.
Brightpoint was close to acquiring Data Select in 2006.
