Officers also seized 120 laptops, 110 cameras, 32 iPods and 20 SatNavs from Blackstock Road, Finsbury Park. The area is said to be a mobile crime hot spot, with up to 40 per cent of phones stolen in Britain sold there.
Raids also took place as far north as Leeds. A total of 81 people have been arrested, with 27 so far charged with offences including supply of class A drugs, handling stolen goods and supply of fraudulent documents. They appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on March 28.
Operation Mista involved 1,122 officers, and the sealing of part of Blackstock Road to conduct search warrants at 19 business premises. Islington Borough Police Chief Superintendent Bob Carr said: “The operation has taken many months to plan, collating intelligence to ensure we targeted the right individuals.
“We cannot allow people perceived to be successful through criminality to have a negative impact on our communities.”
