O2 readies handset customer service

O2 is trialling a new service that allows contract customers access to billing and account information direct from the handset.

The free service is an extension of its ‘My O2’ online billing management tool, launched last month. It enables customers access to their balance information by either sending a blank text message to a short code (21202) or by logging on to the O2 portal (www.o2.co.uk/mybalance).

It is not available to business and corporate customers, or accounts with multiple handsets using shared bundled minutes.

An O2 spokesperson said: “We have soft-launched a service which allows consumer contract customers to check their remaining minutes, text and data allowances and usage charges since their last bill. This is still in the early stages of roll-out.”
