Handset distributor Brightpoint has signed a US distribution deal with Chinese manufacturer ZTE.
ZTE is looking to ramp-up its presence in the US. It launched two new handsets to work on AWS frequency bands, in addition to PCS and cellular bands, in the US last month.
The ZTE C78 and C79 are among the first handsets to operate on AWS, used for current and next generation voice, data and multimedia applications.
“These handsets allow US carriers to leverage the AWS spectrum and fully profit from their investments,” said ZTE USA chief executive George Sun.
Brightpoint, whose chief executive Bob Laikin said last month the company is on an expansion drive, will distribute ZTE handsets to the network and reseller channels, starting with the C88.
Sun said: “Brightpoint’s extensive network of sales channels will increase our customer reach, which is crucial to building our brand in this market.”
Meanwhile, Brightpoint has signed a US fulfilment and logistics deal with Sprint’s XOHM business unit in support of their upcoming launch of a next generation mobile WiMAX network.
Brightpoint will provide a comprehensive logistics solution for several of XOHM’s distribution sales channels, including web-based and EDI ordering capabilities and fulfilment. Services will include order processing and reverse logistics support.
