3 has lodged a complaint against Vodafone with the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) in regards to its description of mobile broadband speeds.

The complaint was lodged after the network took issue with its competitor advertising “unrealistic” mobile broadband speeds of up to 7.2Mbps, in comparison with 3’s own advertised top speed of 2.8Mbps.

3 declined to comment.

A Vodafone spokeswoman said they had yet to receive any correspondence from the ASA and would respond accordingly, adding Vodafone’s advertising was accurate as it said “up to”, and that speeds would vary depending on time of use, distance to the base station and number of users.
