Samsung unveils new management team

Samsung Mobile has announced the appointment of Derek Williamson to the role of general manager for its UK and Ireland business.

Williamson will be responsible for all marketing and product management, reporting directly into Samsung Mobile UK and Ireland vice president Mark Mitchinson.

Williamson joins Samsung Mobile from T-Mobile where he was director of core business. He assumes his new role on July 1.

Said Mitchinson: “I am extremely pleased to have Derek joining Samsung Mobile in such a pivotal role. Derek’s knowledge and experience in the telecoms industry commands a great deal of respect. As we enter a new phase of growth, it is critical to have a professional leader of Derek’s calibre driving our business and aspirations through second half 2008 and beyond."

Williamson added: "This is an exciting time in the world of mobile, with the industry entering a period of significant change. Samsung Mobile is ideally placed to become market leader. Samsung has seen phenomenal growth in the last few years helped by the development of a world class portfolio of handsets and devices.

"I expect to see big changes, happening fast, across the industry and I believe that Samsung will be leading the way on innovation and design.”

Matthew Brum is also joining the team as head of product management. Brum joins Samsung from Sony Ericsson where he was a senior manager, responsible for competitor analysis and pricing.

Brum starts with Samsung mid-August and will report directly into Williamson.

Internally, Jon French has been promoted to general manager for sales and he will report directly into Mitchinson.
