Crimestoppers UK is to roll out a pilot scheme to stamp out knife crime using text messaging.
The project will be introduced to three East London schools where anyone sending crime fighting information can send it via text to Crimestoppers anonymously.
Crimestoppers UK bureau manager and vice-president Michael Gordon-Gibson said: “We’re kicking the service off with a pilot in three Tower Hamlet schools that will specifically look at combating knife crime.
"We’re confident this pilot will be a success and plan to roll out to schools across London following this, with a view to a nationwide roll out in the near future.
"SMS is a fantastic way to reach out to this demographic. It’s easily accessible and provides young people with peace of mind given the complete anonymity of the service.”
