Samsung Mobile has appointed former Motorola man James King as head of marketing.

King was UK and Ireland marketing manager for Motorola and will report directly into newly appointed Samsung UK general manger Derek Williamson.

Said King: “My goals are simple. I want to lead the talented marketing team to new heights by being the partner of choice with our customers, through understanding their business better than our competitors and delivering the strongest original campaigns to meet those needs. Equally I want the Samsung Mobile brand to be the most sought after in the consumers’ eye through maximising the product portfolio, investment and brand strategy to drive consumer engagement to a whole new level.”

Samsung UK and Ireland vice president Mark Mitchinson said: “James is a marketing professional who has the drive and creative determination to further enhance our core marketing values and build upon our excellent brand awareness whilst further enhancing our through-the-line marketing activities. James has a loyalty and dedication unrivalled in the telecoms industry and I am keen for him to further develop his skills and lead the extraordinary talent in my marketing operation.”
