LG has announced it is to combine its personal computer and mobile handset businesses to focus on converged products.
Under the reorganisation, the PC business unit will transfer from LG’s Digital Media business division to its Mobile Communication business division. No job cuts are to be made.
The reorganisation is aimed at maintaining the momentum sustained recently by LG’s mobile handset division.
According to figures from Gartner analysts, LG sold 23.6 million units in Q1, seeing it overtake Sony Ericsson to become the world’s fourth-largest handset manufacturer.
South Korea’s Ministry of Knowledge Economy said this week that the country’s mobile handset industry is aiming to double its annual mobile handset shipments by 2012 in a bid to become the global leader in the sector.
