Vodafone adds two to marketing team


Vodafone UK has announced two key marketing appointments to its consumer management team.

Phil Marsland will join as the newly created head of customer marketing role, while Charlie Smith, who has been acting as head of brand and marketing communications for the last four months, has had his position made permanent. Both will report to Ian Shepherd, Vodafone UK’s consumer director (pictured). Marsland begins on September 15.

Marsland joins from American Express, where he has been head of new product development for its consumer products division internationally. He also spent eight years at financial services company Capital One.

Smith has been at Vodafone for three years, joining from Orange, and has worked on a number of high profile campaigns and projects including the recent mobile internet and mobile broadband advertising as well Vodafone’s music programme.

Said Shepherd: “Through our marketing we are determined to build our brand, inspire loyalty and convince people that Vodafone is the place to be for the best mobile experience.

“These two roles are absolutely key in going forward in a very competitive market and I’m sure that both Phil and Charlie will play a significant part in our future success.”
