Orange backs Lyca’s Swiss roll out

Ethnic market MVNO Lycamobile last week launched its Swiss offering on the Orange Switzerland network.

It follows Lycamobile launches in The Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Denmark and Sweden. It claims to have more than one million customers across Europe for its MVNO offering, since first launching in The Netherlands in June 2006.

It has set up distribution in Switzerland via 5,000 independent and retail multiple stores.

Lycamobile chief executive Milind Kangle said: "Our Swiss customers will benefit from great voice quality at the best roaming rates.

"Lycamobile SIMs and top-up vouchers will be available across a broad spectrum of retail outlets across the country."

Lycamobile is offering Swiss customers calls to the Dominican Republic at 16 rappen (one 100th of one Swiss franc) per minute; to Serbia, Turkey, Nigeria, India and Sri Lanka at 19 rappen per minute, and to the Cameroon at 29 rappen per minute.

On-network calls in Switzerland are nine rappen for up to 30 minutes talktime. Text messages are 14 rappen. It is offering multilingual user guides and IVR, with customers able to choose their preferred language option.

Lycamobile is planning eight more MVNO launches in 2008. It claims it can sign seven million customers across its global operations by 2011.

Orange Switzerland director of new business and partnership marketing Marcel Chiappori said:

"Lycamobile will be successful with its attractive offering in Switzerland, as it is already in other European countries."
