Harrison steps down from Carphone board

Carphone Warehouse UK chief executive Andrew Harrison is to step down from the Carphone group board.

He remains UK chief and also takes charge of Best Buy Europe, Carphone’s £2.2 billion retail joint venture with US consumer electronics giant Best Buy, which completed earlier this month. He will also take a position on the Best Buy Europe board.

David Goldie, chief of Carphone’s telecoms division, is also stepping down from the board, although he too retains his operational role.

Carphone said in a statement: "As a consequence of the completion of the transaction with Best Buy, Andrew Harrison, chief exeutive of our UK business, is stepping down from the board at today’s Annual General Meeting.

"Given the increasing autonomy of our two operating divisions, David Goldie, chief executive of our telecoms business, is also stepping down. Their operational roles within the Group remain unchanged."

A spokesperson added: "We wanted to have a smaller board independent of operational influences."

Non-executive director Adrian Martin is also retiring after eight years service.
