20:20 gets nod for Ikea and Carphone MVNOs

20:20 Mobile has been appointed distribution partner for T-Mobile’s new MVNO venture with Swedish flat-pack furniture chain Ikea.

It has also been named preferred supplier for Talkmobile, the new low-cost MVNO from the Carphone Warehouse.

Ikea’s prepay SIMs, branded ‘Family Mobile’, will be available to all new and existing Ikea Family loyalty programme members, which is currently 1.4 million members strong.

20:20 sales director Andy Cutler said: "We’re really excited to have been appointed as distribution partner for this new venture between Ikea and Family Mobile.

"20:20 has a great deal of experience in strategic partnerships of this kind, successfully working on a range of MVNO contracts, delivering the value-added support our clients expect."

20:20 will be handling the kitting and despatch for the new service and operating the online store. Sources said it beat rival firm Brightstar to the contract.

The service will have fixed rates at 9p per minute for calls and 6p for each text message with a minimum initial top up of £10.

The family-marketed service will allow users to set up an account with a number of SIM cards and top up an amount for all to share.

Ikea will be presenting all its 9,500 employees with a free Family Mobile SIM with £5 credit pre-loaded along with a free handset on August 5.

20:20 Logistics has been named as the first preferred supplier for Talkmobile, the new low-cost mobile network from leading independent retailer The Carphone Warehouse.
As part of Carphne deal, 20:20 has built and will host Talkmobile’s website, providing an end-to-end service for all handsets and SIMs sold through the site.

It will distribute Talkmobile SIMs into the UK dealer market.

The MVNO includes two types of prepay products: Talkmobile Prepay, offering low cost UK calls and text rates; and World, offering international calls from 4p per minute.

Talkmobile is also offering a new product called ‘Control,’ which combines contract and prepay options for customers who want the advantages of a contract but not an unexpected bill at the end of the month.

Control charges customers a low-cost fixed monthly fee. Customers get a free or discounted phone  and a monthly bundle of minutes and texts. If customers want to spend more, they  top-up normally.

20:20 Sales Director Phil Henchoz said: "Carphone has a genuinely exciting proposition with Talkmobile as well as fantastic brand pedigree and we’re delighted to have been chosen as their first preferred supplier."

Talkmobile head of sales Jason Rigby said: "Talkmobile has found great traction in the market since the launch in April, with customers seeking genuine value. We are delighted to bring 20:20 on-board as the first supplier to distribute the Talkmobile brand into the UK marketplace."

20:20’s management team, led by chief executive Meinie Oldersma (pictured), has recently led a successful financial restructuring of the business.
