Kondor wins Toys R Us supply deal

Kondor has bagged a distribution deal with Toys R Us to issue stock of Vodafone prepay handsets and accessories to the retailer.

Toys R Us is now stocking Sony Ericsson Walkman handsets, Bluetooth headsets and mobile chargers. Kondor will also supply it with a range of Disney camera and audio accessories, including camera cases and headphones.

Disney headphones will also be available via Kondor from Play.com.

The earphones, decorated with gems and a branded charm, feature 10mm speakers which provide excellent clarity and cut out any background noise. The camera cases feature rear storage for memory cards, a carabiner clip and a belt loop.

Kondor’s new business director Simon Hassell said: "Instead of just box shifting we want to do things differently with Toys R Us. This means that the products we distribute will be suitable to the shops’ demographic.

"That gives us a point of difference. It’s not about getting to the store quickly but getting the right phone for the customer."

The toy store adds to Kondor’s portfolio of non-traditional outlets. Hassell said Kondor is ahead of its growth target.

He said: "This is phenomenal. It means we’re continuing to grow as per the plan and are making sure we are serving the customer."

The company has also expanded its sales team with the appointment of ex-Vodafone B2B accounts manager Adam McCormick as national account manager and former Argos merchandising assistant Nina Stoneman as national account executive.

They are both working on the Toys R Us account.

Hassell added: "There are plans to grow by selling handsets to networks and we’re in discussion. We hope to announce a deal by the end of 2008. There are also talks with Lycamobile."
