Orange starts selling laptops

Orange shops started selling laptops for the first time on Saturday (August 16).

The Asus Eee PC is the first product in the ‘connected’ range which Orange hopes will evolve into a fixed landline product with a wider range of laptops.

The laptop is available ‘free’ on Orange ‘Internet Everywhere’ mobile broadband for £25 on a 24 month contract. The service includes 3GB UK data allowance and 100 texts from the laptop.

Demo bays for the laptops will be installed in 85 stores across the country for customers to try out the product.

Orange director of devices Francois Mahieu said: "This launch is just the start, over time we will be expanding our offering even further with more suppliers who are at the forefront of laptop technology."

An Orange spokesperson said: "The connected range is part of Tom Alexander’s agenda to improve the company. We want to evolve and will do so by taking the range right across the board and into stores through point of sale."

The offer will also be available via telesales and the Orange web site.
