Ex Voda man to be Tesco Telecoms chief

Tesco Telecoms has appointed former Vodafone marketing and commercial director Lance Batchelor as chief executive officer.

Batchelor, who joined Tesco more than a year ago as UK marketing director, will oversee the development of all parts of the business including the mobile and internet arms.

Batchelor said: “Tesco Telecoms offers the perfect propositions for the current market and in my role as CEO I hope to provide the strategic direction to ensure that the business continues to develop and offers the best deals for our customers.”

Tesco hopes to grow its share in the services market and is aiming to increase its profits in the area from £400 million to £1 billion per annum.

As well as spending four years at Vodafone, Batchelor also worked for online retailer Amazon as chief marketing officer and general manager.
