Sony Ericsson will launch the Xperia X1 handset on September 30 in the UK, Germany and Sweden.
The handset is the first under Sony Ericsson’s new sub-brand Xperia, which aims to produced converged ‘one devices’ that do everything.
“We are extremely pleased with the innovation and new user experience we
have created for consumers on the Xperia X1," said Sony Ericsson head of creation and development Rikko Sakaguchi “The nine panel eco system puts the user in total control of the primary experiences available on the phone and allows consumers to personalise the panel interface to suit their needs and lifestyle.
“The Xperia X1 has the highest quality screen on the market, four-way navigation keys and optical joy stick to give a stressless browsing experience.”
Sony Ericsson is also using a TV-style thriller to market the handset’s capabilities. The Johnny X series will be broadcast in nine episodes through the internet and will follow a man suffering amnesia who then uses the X1 to rediscover his identity.
Launches across Europe, Asia and Latin America will follow in Q4.
Meanwhile, Sony Ericsson has also launched an MTV FanWalk offering music fans the chance to walk the 200 miles from London to Liverpool.
As part of the MTV Europe Music Awards, 100 people will take part in the ten day trek, with one to present an award at the event at the Echo Arena Liverpool.
“This is a fantastic opportunity,” said MTV Europe Music Awards executive producer Richard Godfrey. “Attending the awards and seeing some of the greatest acts perform live is a dream for many people, and the FanWalk provides a real chance to make 100 people’s dreams come true.”
The FanWalk will begin in London on October 29 and will arrive in Liverpool on November 6. Throughout the journey the walkers will be interviewed for local press as well as writing a personal blog using a Walkman phone for the FanWalk website.
