3 looking to the dealer channel


3 unveiled a range of new products at its annual dealer sales event in London earlier this month, with a wireless router, new VIP dealer club and a 3 Seller growth plan to boost business.

Scheduled for release early next month, the D100 Wi-Fi router (pictured) can be used with any Huawei mobile broadband dongle to connect up to three devices to the internet.

The router will negate the need for a landline to make a household fully web-enabled. Pricing has yet to be confirmed.

3 director of indirect sales Bernie O’Beirne updated dealers on the network’s new VIP club and 3 Seller growth plan. The network aims to double its business in the next five years and is looking to dealers to contribute. O’Beirne said 3 representatives would be “knocking on doors” to discuss a mutual strategy for this business growth.

He said: “In the coming weeks we will be talking to our dealers to find out how we as a network can help them do more business with 3. We’ll be using this information to provide dealers with an agreed growth plan, to provide them with the relevant tools to grow their businesses.

“Some of our partners are still missing out on the opportunities in mobile broadband and that’s a major part of how we are growing the business. We’ll be looking closely at how we can fix that.”

The 3VIP club will launch on October 30 and is open to up to 30 of the network’s best distributors, distance sellers and direct dealers. It replaces the network’s ‘Q Club’ for elite dealers.

Members will be selected on their ability to deliver both volume and quality, particularly in selling mobile broadband and business offers. They will get opportunities for bespoke training and the chance to meet key business contacts, as well as concierge and VIP access to The Living Room restaurant and bar.

Dealers were also urged to make contact with “the new distributors” – the IT-based VIP, West Coast, Micro-P, and Brightstar.

Also at the event, Communications Direct was named Distance Seller of the Year, while The Carphone Warehouse was named Retailer of the Year.

Meanwhile, 3 boosted its B2B offering with free unlimited mobile email.

‘Email on 3’ allows small businesses to send and receive work email, as well as web-based email from sites such as Gmail, Yahoo! and Hotmail, by adding unlimited email use to the existing £4.26 Internet Max package.    

Users download an application, select their preferred email providers and give login details. Up to 10 separate accounts can be used per handset, while attachments can be viewed and sent at no extra charge.

Head of 3 Business Renato Bottini said: “This is another example of how high-speed mobile internet can provide real benefits to small businesses.”

He told dealers at 3’s annual sales conference this month: “The iPhone is on the wrong network. The network it is on doesn’t run on a great engine.”
