O2 marketing director Sally Cowdry has begun her maternity leave today and is due to return in summer 2009.

The network’s postpay and prepay heads Peter Rampling and Alistair Johnston will take on Cowdry’s role during her leave. Rampling will man the consumer contracts, SME, broadband and new product development, customer relationship management and own brand devices teams while Johnston will cover prepay, brand, products and strategy.

Rampling joined O2 before its launch and has 21 years experience in telecoms and marketing. His most recent role included marketing and business responsibility for consumer pay monthly and SME business.

Johnston joined O2 last year as head of prepay. Prior to his O2 position he held senior roles at Virgin and Orange.
