Samsung is to sponsor the 2009 NAVTEQ Global LBS (Location-Based-Services) Challenge, a competition for developers of LBS.
Samsung will provide contestants with an i8510, software tools to help them develop applications on the Series 60 operating system and technical support through the Samsung Mobile Innovator web portal.
“We see the NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge as a great opportunity for Samsung Mobile Innovator and mobile developers to work more closely together,” said Samsung global relations manager Sanj Matharu. “The mobile industry recognises the huge potential and variety of LBS applications, and with new devices available like the i8510, there’s a big opportunity for those developers getting involved in the Challenge.”
The competition will be spilt into three regions: Europe-Middle East-Africa; the Americas; and Asia Pacific and Samsung will also participate in the judging process in each region.
The prize pool for the competition includes cash, tools, data licenses and devices and is valued at over £3 million, as well as providing developers with invaluable industry exposure.
