3 tops consumer broadband poll

3 has topped a survey of mobile broadband users conducted by comparison website Broadband Expert.co.uk.

The site surveyed more than 4,000 UK mobile broadband users between January and September, quizzing them on mobile broadband usage and testing connection speeds.

3 finished top in four of the eight categories, winning best value, best laptop bundle, best prepay and best overall mobile broadband.

The site’s technical director William Harvey said: “3 has led the way in reducing mobile broadband costs, forcing other providers to bring down their prices.”

He added the average price of mobile broadband has fallen by more than 50 per cent in the past 12 months.

Vodafone won fastest mobile broadband speed, with its mobile broadband service with an average of 2.74 Mbps.

Vodafone also scooped the best coverage award.

T-Mobile had the fairest pricing and best customer satisfaction, with 71 per cent of its customers satisfied with the service. Vodafone was close behind with 70 per cent.

Harvey said he expected mobile broadband speeds and coverage to increase as networks upgraded their infrastructure over the next 12 months.

He also said T-Mobile and 3’s recent introduction of 3G wireless routers, which allow households to share a single mobile broadband connection, were another step towards mobile broadband replacing fixed broadband services.
