Nokia launched the 5800 ‘Tube’ in its Regent Street store this morning, with more than 150 people queuing early to get their hands on the new touchscreen handset.
Offering tickets to music festival Benicassim to the first 100 customers and exclusive content to the first 200, people braved poor weather and queued through the night to be the first through the doors.
“There were some people who came from Bristol at around eight or nine at night and camped overnight,” said Nokia UK head Mark Loughran. “It was great to see such a reaction from customers, it’s brilliant.”
The Tube is Nokia’s first full touchscreen handset and is part of the Nokia’s XpressMusic range, although the first release does not yet include the Comes With Music service.
“People keep asking about if the service will come on the handset which is great,” added Loughran. “But we don’t want to rush the service and we have to ensure the experience is right.”
The handset will be available through all channels from January 30.
