Carphone staff asked to cut costs

Carphone Warehouse has taken its cost-cutting to the shop floor, and requested in an internal memo last week feedback from staff on ways to reduce spend.

A Carphone spokesperson said: “We delivered a successful set of Christmas trading results in what proved to be one of the toughest retail environments in recent memory.

“Our plan of gaining market share at the expense of profit margin was a deliberate strategy and helped us deliver exceptionally good value to our customers. We will continue with this strategy and as a result are looking at ways in which we can make savings and greater efficiencies across all our markets in order to protect our bottom line.”
