MWC: Nokia and Qualcomm unite

Nokia and Qualcomm said at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona they are to work together to develop a series of mobile devices initially aimed at the North American market.

Based on the Symbian S60 software the devices will be compatible with the Symbian Foundation platform and use Qualcomm chipsets to improve processing power. They are expected for launch mid-2010.

Nokia executive vice president for devices Kai Oistamo said: “We are eager to demonstrate to the industry the possibilities that exist when innovative and open software is combined with advanced hardware solutions.”
