Avenir Telecom is to ramp up its UK accessories distribution business in the coming months with supply deals with major high street retailers.
Avenir already supplies certain accessory lines to Orange in the UK.
It said it has also been in touch with other network opperators, as well as supermarket chains Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys, electronics stores Dixons and Comet, and a number of non-specialist brands such as WH Smith. Avenir stated supply contracts would be “strategic”, and in place by August, ahead of the Christmas rush.
Avenir runs a major accessories distribution business in France, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Bulgaria and Romania where it operates 800 stores under the ‘Internity’ brand. Avenir’s retail operations contributes almost 50 per cent of its group revenues.
It will pursue UK accessories distribution contracts with Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and LG. It will also run niche mobile accessory brands and a host of IT lines. Avenir has already sealed accessories distribution with Toshiba and is in talks to partner with Data Select on Toshiba handsets.
Avenir commercial director John Doughty (pictured) said: “It is my job to ensure Avenir is not 100 per cent reliant on one area of business and to put ourselves in a position where we are competing with Dextra, Kondor and Strax, but with a better infrastructure.
“My ideal is we start getting talked about in the same breath as these, but obviously do it better. No company has more to offer than we do – we have 800 stores and, so, have a feel for what sells and what doesn’t. It is not going to happen over night.
“There is a long way to go, but we are very confident. It seems ludicrous to have a ready-made product range, which can go straight into retail stores and not use it.”
