Orange has been named as the first UK operator to launch the Samsung i8910 HD. The device, launched at Mobile World Congress under the name ‘Omnia HD’, will be known by its model number.
The i8910 HD features the world’s first HD video camera in a mobile, as well as a 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen with auto-rotating display, which Samsung said enables users to enjoy PC-like web surfing on the phone using its HSDPA capabilities.
It also comes with an 8-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, face detection, smile shot, blink shot and panoramic shot, as well as 8GB of internal memory with an external memory slot for additional space.
Samsung Mobile UK and Ireland vice president Mark Mitchinson said: “To say that the Samsung i8910 HD represents innovation is an understatement. It’s the world’s first mobile to have HD video recording as well as having the world’s largest AMOLED screen on a phone.
“You can therefore shoot your own videos in HD and view them in high quality instantly. Furthermore the multimedia and business functionality with the customary Samsung style means it has features to suit everyone.”
The Samsung i8910 HD is now available for free from Orange on a 24-month contract at £40 per month. The package includes 1200 minutes per month, unlimited texts, Orange Maps and anytime mobile internet browsing.
