Opera Mini has grown by 158 per cent in the year ended January 2009, it claimed.
Opera said the company as a whole has grown by 67 per cent year on year and increased its total customer base to 4 billion globally. The previous year the company reported growth of 55 per cent.
Currently it has 40 million desktop internet users and claims to be the third biggest internet browser globally. It has 23 million active Opera Mini customers.
Opera co-founder and chief executive Jon von Tetzchner said: “Last month we signed a deal in the USA to provide our internet browser as an optional add on to Ford trucks.
“We are not loosing our focus on mobile phones, but we are looking at all the ways to reach the most amount of people.
“The desktop market is mature but it is still growing as well as mobile because there are a lot of users.”
