The Carphone Warehouse is set to open up four more ‘Wireless World’ concept stores this month and one later in summer bolstering the presence of its extended product portfolio across the UK.
The new stores will increase the number of new format stores to nine as it currently has existing stores based in Westfield Shopping Centre in London (pictured), Portsmouth, Bristol and Romford.
The new stores, dubbed internally as ‘Wireless Lite’ shops for being smaller than the flagship wireless format stores, will offer a wider range of products including laptops, netbooks, games and television packages.
The four sites due to open in June are to be confirmed by the retailer, whilst the site set for opening by the end of summer is to be opened in Surrey Quays Shopping Centre in Rotherhithe, London.
An internal recruitment process will commence in the coming days with top broadband salespeople being scouted from other stores in the area to work in the new stores.
Meanwhile, Carphone staff claim as a result of the retailer’s focus on broadband and laptop sales, new contract connections have slowed down since January even though Carphone’s fourth quarter figures reported a two per cent increase in new connections.
Some stores claimed a decrease in contract sales of around 10 to 20 per cent since January.
