Symbian Foundation bolsters team


The Symbian Foundation has appointed Larry Berkin as head of alliance management and Dietmar Tallroth as general counsel.

Berkin is former vice president of Mobile Ecosystem and corporate business development at Access (formerly PalmSource). Tollroth previously held positions as director of legal for Nokia’s Open Source and Java.

Berkin’s new role involves heading up Symbian’s American office and expanding its partnership alliances and developer ecosystem. Tallroth will be based in Finland, tasked with serving Symbian’s general counsel.

Symbian Foundation executive director Lee Williams said: “Symbian is strengthening its executive team with talented individuals, including Larry and Dietmar, both very experienced, passionate and already well-entrenched in the open source movement.

“Their contributions will enable the foundation to continue its efforts towards growing a thriving ecosystem, comprising a strong network of developers, partners, manufacturers and operators, around the Symbian platform.”

The Symbian Foundation has also hired several new members including Robert Ackland who joined as technology manager for application and UI layer technologies, team lead for tools Paul Beusterien and Richard Collins who joined the connectivity technology management team.

Also recently recruited are Oliver Gunasekara who joined the Alliance Management team, chief architect and chair of the Symbian Architecture Council Daniel Rubi, member programs team member Lauren Sarno, companies community manager Bill Washburn and UI technology manager Scott Weiss.
