Asda Mobile’s prepay sales are up by more than 10 per cent on last year, it said last week.
Asda buying manager Craig Thirkell said the influx of budget handsets priced below £10 and the struggles incurred by other high street retailers is playing into its hands.
“Our prepay sales are stunning at the moment,” he said. “Without revealing exact sales figures, we’re experiencing double digit growth compared to the sales we made at this point last year.
“People are becoming more aware of the budget Nokia handsets priced at £10 on the shelves and aren’t afraid to part with that type of money.
“The closure of the Woolworths chain and with Argos reportedly not experiencing great prepay growth, it’s been a great first half of the year for us.”
