UK mobile music downloads reached a record monthly figure of 1.72 million in May, according to data from GfK.
GfK information has revealed that so far in 2009, each month has registered at least 1.5 million music downloads and the market is still growing at an impressive rate in volume terms. Downloads for April and May were 21 per cent up on 2008.
Thirty-one per cent of MP3 files downloaded in May were via a subscription service. GfK estimates the market in May to be worth £2.36 million.
Subscriptions are encouraging ‘search and discovery’ as over 70,000 titles were downloaded just once in the month of May.
