More than 1.5 billion applications have been downloaded from the Apple App Store since launch last year.

Apple also reported to have over 100,000 application developers on the iPhone Developer Programme and has 65,000 applications available fore download.

Apple chief executive Steve Jobs (pictured) said: “The App Store is like nothing the industry has ever seen before in both scale and quality.

“With 1.5 billion apps downloaded, it is going to be very hard for others to catch up.”

The App Store is available in 77 countries which Apple claimed enables developers to reach “tens of millions” of iPhone and iPod touch users globally.
