Asda Mobile buying manager Craig Thirkell has stepped down from his role to head up the retailer’s television business.
Chris Jones, who has been at the company for a number of years, will fill the position left by Thirkell, who has been Asda Mobile buying manager since the business started around three years ago.
Thirkell said: “I’ve very much enjoyed the role but I was offered a job that was too good to refuse.
“I’ve seen the mobile part of the business come from nothing to having the cheapest flat rate tariffs available with a large customer base, something I’m very proud of.”
He said that a website launched last month selling 72 different SIM-free handsets from all the major manufacturers has proved popular, despite it not being openly advertised.
He added that plans are afoot to revamp the website and promote it more.
“It’s been picking up traffic which is even more pleasing considering we haven’t even promoted it apart from internal wordof- mouth,” he said.
“We will be giving the website a big overhaul soon and then we’ll be in a position to openly advertise it as its own channel.”
