Windows Mobile has announced its new mobile platform will launch on October 6 on a range of new handsets globally.
Windows Mobile 6.5 software will also be available as an upgrade to existing Windows Mobile handsets.
It will also launch Windows Marketplace application store and a cloud storage service, Microsoft My Phone, on the same date.
Microsoft Group corporate vice president of mobile communications marketing Todd Peters said: “A Windows phone gives people a single phone that works for their whole life, keeping them connected to the people and information they care most about by harnessing the power of the PC, phone and Web.”
Windows Mobile 6.5 comes with a “finger friendly” user interface which removes the need for a stylus and a faster Internet Explorer browser.
