Apple has announced it has sold 30 million iPhone handsets globally since launch two years ago.
Apple also announced the release of the 3.1 software update at the Apple Special event on September 9, hosted by chief executive Steve Jobs.
The free 3.1 update integrates Apple’s Genius technology for the App Store. Genius was previously used for iTunes and automatically creates playlists for music of similar tempos.
Genius recommends applications according to what applications users currently have on their device.
Jobs (pictured) said: “The iPhone 3.1 software update has got a bunch of really nice features and bug fixes.
“Genius technology works really well for automatically recommending apps to you based on what you own.”
Apple has also added over 30,000 ringtones for the iPhone priced at $1.29 each.
It also said customers have downloaded over 1.8 billion applications since launch.
