Carphone Warehouse is to trial a new staff rota system across 20 stores to gather data about the store to determine how many staff should work at certain times of the day.
Data being gathered includes how many customers walk in to the shop and at what time. The data is matched with sales information such as what types of products are being sold during the day.
Carphone said this would enable stores to work more efficiently and ensure the right amount of staff are working according to the store’s peak times.
The trial is to last six weeks. Carphone may then roll out the process to its entire retail estate.
One Carphone staffer said: “The concept is a logical step in the right direction to ensure that each store has the right amount of staff in at the right time.”
A Carphone spokesperson added: “Our aim is to deliver a ‘World Class Service’ and so it’s important to have retail colleagues available on the shop floor when they are most needed.”
