Phones 4U is recruiting 500 Christmas staff, both temporary and permanent.
Staff claimed the number of Christmas temp staff is much higher than last year and an indication that prepay will be a key focus for Q4.
All large and flagship stores will recruit up to three additional staff for the busy period, while smaller stores will take on one staffer during the run up to Christmas.
One staffer said: “Store managers have been told by head office to complete the interviews as quickly as possible so that stores can prepare for the Christmas rush.
“Christmas staff generally focus on selling prepay handsets, so this is a clear indication that Phones 4U is readying itself to sell a high volume of prepay stock.”
Meanwhile, the retailer has completed the first phase of its store refits last week.
The Stafford, Crewe, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Manchester and Liverpool branches have been refurbished.
Over 100 stores will be refurbished by November, and its entire retail estate consisting of 450 stores will be completed by April next year.
Phones 4U retail development director John Welsh said: “We are happy with the refurbishment plans.
“Further roll out will depend on the success of these stores.”
It will have live demo handsets and laptops but will not offer an extended product portfolio. Products will be stocked on shelves on the shop floor.
Phones 4U is encouraging store managers to consult with their associate regional directors to fit stores appropriately. Smaller stores may have less space for demo displays.
