Opal in UK Telco acquisition

Opal has announced the purchase of West Midlands fixed line supplier UK Telco for an undisclosed fee.

Carphone Warehouse business division Opal Telecom confirmed yesterday it has completed the deal to acquire the fixed line voice and broadband supplier after a “quick” deal was agreed.

UK Telco, like Opal, has built a business on supplying both fixed and mobile services, including IP to independent resellers and has an existing wholesale relationship with Opal spanning eight years.

It is the third major acquisition of a fixed line supplier in the past year following the purchase in fixed and VoIP sellers The Airtime Group and V Networks since September last year.

Opal director of wholesale Andy Hollingworth (pictured) said: “This is another example of Opal acquiring a partner where we have built really strong long term relationship. Importantly when it was the right time for the owners to exit, Opal was able to quickly agree a deal, provide a good home for the customer base and continue to offer support to UK Telco’s channel partners.”

UK Telco departing managing director Rob Boylett said: “When we knew the time was right to exit, the natural option was Opal. Their support and commitment has been unsurpassed.”
