Comet has launched a mobile friendly version of its website and becomes the first multi-channel electrical retailer to launch a mobile site.
It has also become the only retailer to allow customers to reserve a product via their web browser and collect it from a local store 30 minutes later.
Customers with a web-enabled mobile will be able to research any of Comet’s 7,000 products, read customer reviews, reserve the product and track their order. They can then use the onsite maps functionality to find the location of their nearest store and obtain directions.
Three versions of the mobile site have been developed, with an automatic browser detection tool determining which handset a customer is using, and routing them to the most appropriate version.
Comet web design and development manager Robbie Tutt said: “We found that in the past six months over a quarter of a million people visited comet.co.uk using a mobile device, so we knew that the demand was there, and we built the mobile site in response.
“The mobile internet is a very fast growing area and one we see as only getting bigger. That’s why this is only the first stage for mobile.comet.co.uk. Further developments have already been scoped out and we’ll be working on them over the next few months.”
