Brightstar Europe is “gathering momentum” in Germany, nine months after entering the market. It has completed an airtime supply deal with T-Mobile, and also signed off fulfilment deals with electronics retailer Media Markt, owned by online store Amazon. Brightstar Europe entered the German market in February as part of its pan-European strategy with joint venture partner Tech Data, which operates in the IT reseller market and claims 15,000 active accounts in Germany.
The joint venture, like the UK unit’s partnership with Tech Data subsidiary Computer 2000, enables IT resellers in the first instance to sell mobile airtime and hardware.
Brightstar Germany said a number are already adding T-Mobile airtime to their portfolio. The deal with Media Markt, part of Media Saturn Holdings, is a headline contract in Germany. Rival Brightpoint also supplies the retailer.
Brightstar Germany expects new supply deals in the New Year with a number in Germany’s growing MVNO sector. A Sony Ericsson contract is also likely, Mobile News understands. Brightstar refused to comment.
However Brightstar Germany marketing director Alex Wolf said: “There is a big market for both IT and mobile and we aim to be a big part of it and continue to build strong relationships. We have only just started, but we will be a major player longterm.”
