Nine dealers received an early Christmas present from Avenir Telecom and O2 last week in the shape of almost half a million pounds in commission between them. But they were made to work for it.
Avenir and network operator O2 held a Dragons’ Den-themed dealer event at Arsenal FC’s plush Emirates stadium to give dealers a chance to voice their ideas on ways to win extra business.
Each dealer was given fifteen minutes to pitch up to three ideas to a panel of six, comprising three from Avenir’s management and three from O2’s channel sales team.
Select O2-connecting dealers were invited at the end of October to attend the event to pitch their ideas for any kind of new funding or support for projects or proposals related to O2 business.
In Dragons’ Den style, the dealers were called individually to the away team’s locker room to pitch their plans, and to have them scrutinised and either approved or rejected for distributor/network support.
Those in waiting sweated and prepared in the Arsenal player’s lounge, where O2 ‘Angels’ were on hand to ease their pre-match tension.
Mobile News gained access to the lounge area and the candidates. The den door itself was shut. Cameras weren’t rolling and dealers claimed afterwards there was none of the snarling invective of the television show. This was between long-time partners, after all.
Most left the grilling in chipper mood, having achieved what they went for. Avenir and O2 accepted 22 proposals from the event, which, if completed, could boost Avenir’s O2 connections by 1,337 and be worth around £500,000 in commission to the dealers.
