LG Mobile sales and marketing director John Barton is to exit the industry after taking charge of the UK operations in April 2005.
Barton resigned from his position on January 4 and will leave the manufacturer in April to become director of a film and media business.
Barton started his career in the mobile industry as sales director of Cellnet, now O2, then moved to Talkland, a service provider which then became Vodafone Retail as director.
He then joined the Caudwell Group as managing director of Phones 4U and Singlepoint before moving on to a position as sales director of One2One, now T-Mobile UK. Before joining LG, he was sales director of 3.
LG is yet to confirm whether it will seek to recruit a direct replacement or if it will share Barton’s duties out among other existing staff.
The channel was informed of his departure yesterday (January 11) in an email.
Barton has previously assited the film and media company by advising it on its music property and will oversee its 3G technology for cameras and television when he joins later this year.
Barton told Mobile News: “I have had a fantastic five years at the helm of LG. Every year we have grown and during my time here, we always accomplished what we set out to do.
“LG will continue to grow from strength to strength after my departure.”
